Today is Valentine’s Day, and I hope for many, it’s a day of flowers, laughter, and shared moments. And to those people, enjoy it. Celebrate love. Hold it close. The world definitely needs more of that.
But I also want to speak to those who are alone today. To the people who are sad, lonely and struggling. To those carrying weight that doesn’t show up in pictures or posts.
I’ll be honest with you – today, I struggle too. Not within my marriage, but with other personal problems. Problems that I should never have had to face. Problems that far too many of our people are facing right now, not because they failed, but because leadership failed them. Because Roosevelt Skerrit and his administration made sure that hardship became normal for too many of us.
After more than thirty years of disappointing government, I know how easy it is to fall into the trap of feeling like this will never end. That no matter how hard you try, the ground keeps shifting beneath your feet. But here’s what I know: today is just ONE DAY..
So again today, I will put my chin down and I will get through it. I will take the day as it comes. And I will not let this moment define me or my family. And neither should you. Hope doesn’t disappear just because it’s been tested. I believe that it survives, quietly, patiently, waiting for its moment. And that moment is coming.
So today, whether you’re celebrating with someone you love or standing on your own two feet, remember this: You are not alone on this day, in this struggle. You and I, we will bounce back, together, I promise!
Happy Valentine’s Day. And don’t lose hope.
