For 25 years, Dominica has relied almost entirely on eco-tourism, and where has that gotten us? Broken promises, weak results, and an economy that struggles just to stay relevant.
Look at other islands like St. Lucia, Grenada, Montserrat, and Saba. Yes, they promote eco-tourism too, but it’s only one part of a larger, balanced tourism strategy. They attract visitors with more than just hiking trails; they offer fun, sun, beaches, entertainment, culture, and vibrant nightlife.
Dominica has so much more to offer than just waterfalls and hiking trails, but for decades, this government has refused to admit it. They have clung to the same tired promises, the same failed eco-tourism strategy, while other islands move forward.
The result? Pathetic tourism numbers, missed opportunities, scarce jobs, and an economy that can barely stay afloat. This is not just incompetence; it is negligence. It is time to stop letting this government limit Dominica’s potential and start building a real tourism industry that delivers jobs, growth, and opportunity for everyone.
It is time to rebrand Dominica as a happy, exciting place to visit, a destination for fun in the sun, great food, good times, music, and a welcoming party atmosphere. We need beaches that attract people, bars and entertainment that keep them spending, and a nightlife that puts us on the Caribbean map. Eco-tourism alone is not viable. Guyana tried that in the 90s and quickly learned that tourists want more than tree-hugging nature walks and quiet lodges. The same applies to Dominica.
The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) will position Dominica as the next big opportunity for world-class resorts like Sandals, Club Med, Marriott, Hilton, and others, but with conditions. Any investor that comes here must partner with local businesses, hire our people, and share the profits fairly. Our tourism cannot continue to benefit a few connected elites while the rest of the island is left behind.

Tourists come to the Caribbean for beaches, fun, good food, entertainment, and unforgettable memories, and Dominica should be no different. For 25 years, we have been sold the false promise that eco-tourism, tree-hugging tourists alone, would transform our island. It has not. Other islands figured it out: Eco-tourism is just a side option, not the main event.
It is time to change Dominica’s boring image. We need to become the destination known as the island of fun, good times, great people, and a place where visitors come to stay, spend, and celebrate life.
No more confusion about being the Dominican Republic.. We are our island, with our own culture, our own identity, and our amazing people, and it is time we start acting like it. Through Direct Democracy, we will do what this government has refused to do for the last 25 years: Make Dominica a true tourist hotspot.
It is time to build a tourism industry that showcases the full beauty, culture, fun, and energy of Dominica, not just waterfalls and hiking trails, but beaches, entertainment, nightlife, and unforgettable experiences.
Let us finally unlock Dominica’s true potential!
