The political circus continues. Both the Dominica Labour Party and the United Workers Party are once again proving they care more about their egos than the people of Dominica.
Let us be honest here, the international airport could have been completed 20 years ago under United Worker Party’s original vision, but Labour came to power, and Roosevelt Skerrit scrapped it out of pure political spite.
For 20 years, Skerrit claimed he had “other priorities,” and clearly, feeding your family, paying your rent, buying groceries, and keeping gas in your vehicle was not one of them. But when you and your wife have 5 government roles and 5 government salaries in your household, why would they care about working-class Dominicans struggling every day?
Now fast forward to today, the airport’s finally being built, not because the Dominica Labour Party cares, it is only because of public pressure, upcoming elections, and the fact that our Caribbean neighbours are leaving us behind. After decades of lies, delays, and excuses, suddenly Skerrit wants applause for building the same airport he killed!
It is like praising the arsonist for putting out the fire they started. It is ridiculous, insulting, and dangerous.
Dominicans are not fools. We remember:
- The Dominca Labour Party scrapped the United Workers Party International airport in 2000.
- Skerrit told us for 20 years, “It’s not a priority.”
- Meanwhile, families suffered, tourism stalled, and we lost opportunity after opportunity.
Now, when his back is against the wall, he expects us to clap? He expects us to forget? No more rewarding the people who burned this country down, only to show up pretending to be the heroes. Dominica deserves better — real leadership, not staged perf.ormances.
And here comes the United Worker Party, proving they are just as bad. Lennox Linton, the same man who once spoke of building up the country, and current UWP leader, Thomson Fontaine spoke on open radio, fearlessly threatening to halt the airport project, drag the country to court, and block development. All for political points. All for revenge. All to “defame the country,” as his own words revealed. The United Worker Party claim to stand for the people, yet their actions aim to cripple progress, fuel division, and block opportunities for Dominicans to finally thrive.
Let us not be fooled. Both parties use the airport, and everything else, like weapons, in their game of political chess. Meanwhile, ordinary Dominicans suffer:
- No jobs.
- No affordable food.
- No reliable development.
- No real hope.
It is all smoke and mirrors while they fight for power, and we pay the price!
Is that what we want? More party loyalty while they destroy the country? More empty promises while families can not survive. At some point, Dominicans have to open their eyes. The parties we have been loyal to are the ones hurting us, the Dominica Labour Party with their greed, the United Workers Party with their spite, and both with their lies. It is time to leave the old games behind. It is time to rise above the division, the corruption, and the selfish politics.
Join the NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP), the only movement focused on real solutions, real accountability, and putting the people of Dominica first. Let us move forward. No more gimmicks. No more betrayals. No more recycled failures.
The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) position on the International Airport is that we 100% intend to keep the international airport project moving forward as planned. This is one decision that will not be open to debate or a vote. We need this airport to be finally completed after 20 years..
You may disagree with Skerrit’s politics. You may question how it got here. You may have concerns, and rightfully so, but let us face reality: Any international airport is better than no international airport.
- It is better than decades of delays.
- It is better than watching our neighbours fly past us while we argue in circles.
- It is better than losing opportunity after opportunity because of stubborn political spite.
We are not here to play political games. We are not here to spite the current government. We are here for the people, for the struggling families, the unemployed individuals, the small businesses fighting to survive, and for Dominica’s future.
Dominica has suffered enough from small-minded politics and ego battles. The airport should have been built 20 years ago, but here we are. We are not going backwards. We are not tearing down progress because of party colours or personal grudges.
The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) is for the people, not the politicians. The airport will continue, no excuses, no delays, no debates. It is time to move forward, together!
