Directive: Ministries Should Be Led by Experts, Not Politicians.

It is the same game every few years. The government shuffles the deck, swaps Ministers around like musical chairs, and the country gets stuck starting all over again.

One day an MP is running Health, next election they are running Housing, next shuffle they are in charge of Agriculture,  whether they know anything about the job or not. It is not about qualifications, it is not about experience,  it is all politics. Meanwhile, Dominica continues to fall behind, and the same families keep getting richer.

Ask yourself, what does Melissa Skerrit know about building homes? What makes her qualified to lead one of the most critical Ministries in this country? What does she know about construction, housing development, or national planning? Absolutely nothing. Yet, she sits as the Minister of Housing, making life-altering decisions for families across Dominica with no professional background, no real experience, and no understanding of the complexities of the housing crisis. The only reason she holds that position is because of her last name. She did not earn it, it was gifted to her because of who she is married to.

It is the same across countless Ministries, with unqualified MPs playing dress-up while the people pay the price.

Melissa Skerrit’s appointment is the perfect example of how broken this system is. Her marriage opened the door,  not her skills, not her knowledge, not her record of service. And it is happening across every Ministry, in every election cycle. This is exactly why our Ministries do not function. It is not just the DLP doing this,  the UWP was guilty of the same thing before this government.

Look at Skerrit Household where there are 5 Government Salaries coming in every month. How is this fair? How is this just? While many educated, skilled Dominicans struggle desperately to find even one government job or contract, the Skerrit family alone collects 5 government salaries, all funded by you, the hardworking taxpayer.

Here is the breakdown:

  1. Roosevelt Skerrit is the Prime Minister.
  2. He is also the Member of Parliament for the Vieille Case Constituency.
  3. And on top of that, he holds the role of Minister for Investment and Governance.

That is 3 government salaries for one man.

Then there is Melissa Skerrit:

  • Member of Parliament for Roseau Central Constituency.
  • Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

That adds 2 more salaries to the household.

5 government paychecks — all from one family.

Meanwhile, thousands of Dominicans wait for a fair shot — unable to secure even a decent job. They watch as Ministries are handed out like family business opportunities, not based on merit, experience, or qualifications, but on political connections, loyalty, and greed.

And yet, the Skerrits claim to care about our people. They speak of youth unemployment, economic hardship, and national progress. But how can anyone believe those words when their actions reveal a different truth?

Now, there is talk of Melissa Skerrit taking over for Roosevelt Skerrit as Prime Minister. This is not leadership,  it is a dynasty. It is kings and queens ruling Dominica like a family kingdom, with power passed down based on bloodline, not capability.

  • This is not democracy. This is entitlement. This is nepotism at its worst.
  • This is not leadership. It is the begining of a Monarchy disguised as governance.

It is a system rigged to reward bloodlines and political loyalty, while hardworking Dominicans are left on the sidelines. It is massive corruption cloaked in the language of service.

The real reason Dominica struggles is not just external challenges,  it is because a handful of families are living off the backs of taxpayers, collecting multiple paychecks, hoarding government resources, and blocking fair access for others.

And it is not just the Skerrits. This greed is entrenched in every political party, it does not matter who is in power. They all put their friends and family first, treating Ministries and government jobs like personal ATMs.

The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) stands firmly against this corrupt system.

  • We believe government jobs should belong to qualified, hardworking Dominicans,  not multi-salary political dynasties.
  • We believe public funds should be used to build the country, not line the pockets of a few privileged families.
  • We believe Ministries should be run by professionals who understand their work,  not by politicians shuffled between portfolios every few years, learning on the job, wasting precious time and resources.

The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) says this cycle has to end. Ministries should not be political rewards. They should not be handed to someone because of their connections or family name. These are positions that affect every Dominican’s life,  they demand real leadership, real knowledge, and real experience.

Under a NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) government, Ministries will be led by qualified Dominicans:

  • Healthcare is run by healthcare professionals.
  • Education is shaped by experienced educators.
  • Infrastructure is overseen by trained engineers.
  • Housing is managed by people who know how to build homes and communities.

Enough of the musical chairs. Enough of watching unqualified MPs jump from Ministry to Ministry, learning nothing, delivering nothing, and pocketing taxpayer money while Dominica suffers.

Dominica deserves better than this recycled incompetence. It is time to stop gambling with the future of our country. The Dominica Reform Party (DRP) will bring qualified leadership to every Ministry, stable teams that understand their work, and real professionals driving progress, not politicians cashing in.

Let us stop accepting this mess as normal. Ministries are not political favours. They are the engine of this nation, and right now that engine is broken and the Dominica Reform Party (DRP) is ready to fix it,  with the right people in the right positions, and a government that finally works for all Dominicans, not just the connected few.
