There comes a time in the history of every nation when the people must rise and say, Enough is Enough! That time has come for Dominica. The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) is making it clear today, in no uncertain terms, that we will not negotiate or sign any new contracts with foreign companies for the building of homes, schools, offices, or public infrastructure. The time for giving away our country’s work to outsiders is over.
It is a national disgrace that a Canadian company, MMC Development, is currently building homes in Pointe Michel, homes paid for in foreign dollars, at foreign wages, for contracts that should have gone to Dominican professionals and Dominican workers. While our skilled tradespeople, contractors, engineers, electricians, masons, and carpenters struggle to find work and are forced to emigrate, a foreign company is getting billions to build what we could and should build ourselves.
And this is not an isolated case. This is an established pattern. A dangerous pattern that this Labour government has repeated over and over again. They have outsourced local opportunities after opportunity. They have exported wealth. They have told the people of Dominica through their actions that we are not good enough to build our own country. And that is an unforgivable betrayal!
Where is the justification for this? How can this government claim to care about “job creation” and “local empowerment” and justify hiring a Canadian company to build homes in a country that is full of qualified Dominicans?
Is it because they do not trust or care about our professionals? Is it because these foreign contracts come with huge kickbacks and quiet deals behind closed doors? We will not speculate, but our people deserve answers.
It Is Time To Bring These Foreign Contracts Home.
Under a NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) government, we will hire only local professionals, and we will make it mandatory that any contractor taking government work must hire only Dominican citizens. This is not just about creating jobs, it is about building national pride and dignity. It is about ensuring that when a young Dominican studies civil engineering or learns to become an electrician or mason, they know there will be a real opportunity at home, not just abroad.
This is not about isolationism. This is about prioritization! We will always welcome ANY Dominicans living abroad to apply for contracts and return home and help build our nation. But we will no longer accept a government that goes out of its way to offer our work, and our money, to Canadian, Chinese, or European companies while our people remain underemployed and underpaid.
For years, this Labour government has handed billions of dollars to foreign companies like CMM Development, billions that could have been invested directly in our people, our communities, our professionals. CMM Development has been given the contracts to build housing developments across Dominica:
1 – Bellevue Chopin
2 – Cotton Hill
3 – Castle Bruce
4 – La Plaine
5 – Delices
6 – Grand Fond
7 – San Sauveur
8 – Georgetown
9 – Berekua
10 -Jimmit
11 – Stockfarm
12 – Roseau Upper Riverbank
13 – Joe Burton
14 – Scotts Head
15 – Eggleston
16 – Grand Bay Ville
17 – Paix Bouche
18 – Canefield
19 – Vieille Case
20 – Pointe Michel
21 – Woodford Hill
22 – Penville
23 – Trafalgar
Something Stinks In Dominica.
Let us say this loud and clear: 23 housing development projects have been awarded to a single foreign company, CMM Development, under just one government. That is right. 23 multi-million-dollar projects, spanning the entire country, have been handed over without the public ever having a say. No national vote. No competitive bidding. No transparency.
Ask yourself: Why would any responsible government give 23 separate housing contracts, worth untold billions, to one company?
- Is it because they offered the cheapest rates?
- Is it because they use the best quality materials?
- Is it because they employ the smartest minds in the world?
No. It is none of those things. It is because this government, the Dominica Labour government, is getting something in return. Thanks to their
- Backroom deals.
- Under-the-table arrangements.
- Favours traded for loyalty.
- Silence is paid for in contracts.
There is no other explanation for this! And no one in the United Workers Party or the Dominica Labour Party dares to question it. Because they have all played from the same corrupt playbook, where foreign companies walk away with the profits and our people are left with the crumbs.
Let Us Call It What It Is, Corruption, Plain And Simple.
These housing projects should have been put to a national vote. Every contract should have been opened for public bidding, with full disclosure of who applied, who got the contract, and why. The public should have seen every detail, budgets, timelines, salaries, materials, and profit margins. But that is not how Skerrit’s government works. Because transparency? That is not a word they use, and it is certainly not a word they enforce.
Instead, our people are reduced to underpaid labour, while foreign companies like CMM Development collect BILLIONS in payment in foreign currency, send the profits abroad, and walk away richer each time.
Dominica has been turned into a playground for foreign profiteers and a plantation of poverty for our workers. This is not development. This is modern-day exploitation, and every contract handed to that company without transparency is a slap in the face to the hardworking professionals of our Dominica.
Enough Is Enough!
The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) is the only political party in this country willing to say what needs to be said.
- This pattern is corrupt.
- This process is rigged.
- And this government cannot be trusted.
Look at the hypocrisy of the United Workers Party, and the Dominica Labour Party, not one of them has stood up to this blatant robbery of our nation’s wealth. They allow foreign companies to line their pockets with government contracts, all the while paying our local workers next to nothing. Profits are pocketed again and again, job after job, while our people struggle to make a comfortable life right here at home.
We are the only party asking the tough questions and demanding answers. We refuse to accept this crooked behaviour that undermines our people. Because fair pay is not fair pay if the rich get richer abroad while our people go to work every day and still cannot afford a decent life in Dominica.
Under a NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) government:
- These shady contracts will come to an end.
- We will cancel any foreign contracts we can, especially those that were made behind closed doors.
- We will create a transparent bidding process, where only Dominican professionals, whether local or from the diaspora, are given the first opportunity to build our country.
- We will ensure every project is open to public oversight, and every dollar spent is accounted for.
Because our people are not just cheap labour. We are leaders. We are builders. We are owners. And we refuse to accept a future where we are told to carry the tools while others collect the gold.
Dominica belongs to Dominicans, not to foreign contractors. Not to secret deals. Not to the Skerrit government’s inner circle.
A NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) government will create a Local Contractor Registry, ensuring transparency and accountability, and giving our skilled professionals first access to every public project. No more backroom sweetheart deals for foreign companies while Dominicans watch from the sidelines.
Because our people are not just cheap labour.
- We are leaders!
- We are builders!
- We are owners!
And we refuse to accept a future where we are told to carry the tools while others collect the gold.
Our goal is simple: Keep the billions of dollars in government contracts circulating right here in Dominica, not in Canada, China, or any other foreign country. For far too long, our governments have handed out massive public contracts to overseas companies while our own skilled workers, engineers, and builders are left on the sidelines, watching as foreign businesses get rich off our land, our labour, and our resources.
When Dominican professionals and companies are allowed to lead these projects, the money stays here. It gets spent at local shops, saved in local banks, reinvested into local businesses, and used to build up Dominican families and communities. That money does not vanish into some foreign bank account; it multiplies here at home.
This is the difference the NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) is fighting for. Foreign companies take the profits abroad. Dominicans reinvest in Dominica. It is that simple. Every time the Labour government signs another backroom deal with a foreign contractor, they are not just selling out our workers; they are exporting our future. We lose jobs, we lose wealth, and we lose the chance to truly build national pride and independence.
A NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) government will put an end to this broken system. We will cancel foreign contracts wherever legally possible and ensure that all public projects are awarded to Dominican professionals first. We will mandate local hiring, enforce full transparency, and empower our people to own the work, not just do the labour.
We believe that Dominicans are more than capable. We believe we are worth more than the crumbs this government throws at us. And we believe that when you give the people of Dominica a fair chance, they will build a future stronger than anything a foreign company could deliver.
We are keeping the billions here for our people, for our economy, and for the future of Dominica. The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) will bring these contracts home. And if the Dominca Labour Party or the United Workers Party had any respect for this country’s professionals, they would have stopped this long ago. But they did not because they had forgotten who they served. The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) has not. We serve YOU, our people. And when we say we will put Dominica first, we do not just mean waving flags and singing songs. We mean putting food on Dominican tables. We mean putting hammers in Dominican hands. We mean putting contracts in Dominican pockets.
This is our country. We will build it ourselves. Let the world hear us, Dominica will no longer be for sale!
Join us. Support the NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP). Let us take our country back. Government:
Team DRP.
