Crime In Dominica Is Not A Police Problem, It Is A Government Failure.

Let us set the record straight: the rise in crime across Dominica is NOT the fault of the police. You cannot blame officers for being overwhelmed, understaffed, or stretched thin when the real culprits sit comfortably in government offices, creating the very conditions where crime thrives.

For over two decades, this administration has failed to create opportunities for young people. They have failed to attract any serious foreign investment. They have failed to build an economy where ordinary citizens can earn an honest living and provide for their families. So what happens when the jobs never come? When do businesses close their doors? When people look around and see nothing but unemployment and broken promises?

They turn to survival, and for some, that means selling drugs, joining gangs, or engaging in illegal activities. Is it the right path? No. But let us be real: when a government leaves people with no options, desperation takes over.

The people of Dominica were promised progress. Instead, for over two decades, they have been given political slogans, staged ribbon-cuttings, and empty speeches about “development,” while entire communities sink deeper into poverty. The only thing that seems to grow consistently here is frustration, crime, and inequality.

It is convenient for this government to blame crime on “bad apples” or say it is all about individual choices. But people do not wake up one day and decide to risk prison or death unless they feel trapped, invisible, and abandoned by their leaders.

But attracting investors requires real leadership, stability, and vision, qualities this government lacks. They have failed to build confidence, failed to present Dominica as a place where serious businesses can grow, and failed to invest in our people who call this island home.

So what are people supposed to do? Sit idly while the cost of living skyrockets? Watch their families suffer while those in power enjoy luxury? Wait for promises that never come true?

The hard truth is this: crime in Dominica is a government-made crisis, fueled by neglect, failed economic policies, and leaders more focused on their survival than the well-being of our people.

So again, stop pretending the police are to blame for the crime crisis in Dominica. They are not. The real blame sits squarely on the shoulders of this government, a government that has created the perfect storm for violence, drugs, and desperation to take over our communities.

For decades, long before this government, Dominica was never known for serious crime. People felt safe in their neighbourhoods, families built their lives here, and our island’s reputation was one of peace. But that changed, and it did not change by accident or overnight. It changed because this government failed our people.

You cannot police your way out of poverty. You cannot arrest your way out of a government-created disaster. Dominica does not need more excuses. We need leadership like the NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP), which will create real investment and put an end to these policies that sell out our country for short-term gain while our people pay the price.

The crime problem is not a mystery. It is the direct result of this government’s failure, and until we acknowledge this and replace them, the situation will only get worse.
