From The Leader’s Office: Roosevelt Skerrit Finally Block Us

So it finally happened. Roosevelt Skerrit blocked our party account. After more than two decades in power, this is the level of leadership we are dealing with, silencing critics on Facebook instead of answering them.

It appears our last post struck a nerve. We pointed out the obvious contradiction: his false expression of sympathy for shop owners who have lost everything, while maintaining policies that impose crushing import taxes and suffocate small businesses. When entrepreneurs collapse under financial pressure, that is not a coincidence. That is his governance.

Let’s talk about the real record:

  • Record levels of poverty.
  • Record levels of persistent unemployment.
  • An economy heavily dependent on foreign loans.
  • An education system that he admits has failed under his leadership.
  • No universal healthcare, let alone any functioning healthcare system.
  • Murders and drugs are taking over our island.
  • Taxes that are higher than in North America.
  • Cost of living (food and services) is the same as living in North America, yet we make less than 1/10 of their income.
  • Fees on everything, because he can not get foreign investors.
  • Seniors who try to figure out how to live on minimal social security each month after decades of squandering.
  • Unaccounted hundreds of millions in funds from the CBI program that never found its way to our communities.
  • Hundreds of millions in foreign aid after Maria, which again never made its way to our communities.
  • Accepting a scholarship for their son Demerti, while having 5 government salaries every month, instead of offering it to a child and family that need it.
  • Wear lavish and expensive clothing in plain sight without fear, while we struggle to clothe ourselves and our children.
  • An annual budget that continues to shrink every year by hundreds of millions.
  • Government services like healthcare, garbage pick up, general cleaning and maintenance are constantly lacking.
  • Literally no stay-over tourism 50 weeks a year.
  • Uses government funds to gift specific individuals things such as fishing boats, housing materials, and Christmas Hams.
  • The endless scandals that plague Roosevelt Skerrit and his administration.
  • And most devastating of all, a steady exodus of our young people. Those who see more opportunity abroad than at home are not progressing. That is an indictment.

Shall I go on?

Instead of addressing these facts and realities, instead of defending the policy decisions, instead of welcoming debate after twenty-plus years of unchecked authority, Roosevelt Skerrit decided to hide by pressing “block.”

  • Is that strength?
  • Is that accountability?
  • Is that confidence in his own record?
  • Is that real leadership?

Roosevelt Skerrit, you can block a social media account, but;

  • You cannot block economic data.
  • You cannot block unemployment.
  • You cannot block poverty.
  • You can not block non-existent health care.
  • You cannot block a failing education system.
  • You can not block your elitism.
  • And you certainly cannot block the departure gate at the airport or ferry as young Dominicans leave in search of a future they cannot find here.

Leadership is not about comfort. It is not about insulation. It is not about retreating behind digital walls when challenged. If anything, this confirms the very criticism that you prefer control over conversations.

But here is the truth – scrutiny does not disappear because criticism is silenced. Pressure does not fade because an account is blocked. And accountability cannot be avoided forever.

You may block a page. You may retreat from the comment section. But you cannot block reality. You cannot block a people who are watching. And you cannot block the consequences of twenty-five years of your own selfish decisions.

Now, some will say, “But you block people too.”

Yes – we do. And we are clear about why. We block individuals who spread deliberate misinformation, who refuse civil engagement, who attack personally, and who use our platform only to defend power with insults instead of evidence. Debate is welcome. Disagreement is welcome. Facts are welcome.

What is not welcome is dishonesty. We are always open to civil, respectful, fact-based discussion. That is the difference. Roosevelt Skerrit does not block misinformation. He blocks scrutiny.

For over two decades, his record stands on display. These are not insults. These are national realities that deserve answers. No one has dismantled our arguments with facts. No one has stepped forward with data that disproves what we have said. Instead of any party leader countering with evidence, the response is silence, and now, a block. That speaks louder than any post.

As for me, my hands are clean. My history is clean. I have no scandals to conceal, no hidden dealings to defend. My family name carries respect in our village and across Dominica because it was built on hard work, pride and compassion, not power.

Roosevelt Skerrit’s character is not attacked into existence. It is revealed through his actions. And actions, over time, defined his failed leadership.

Does it surprise me that he blocked us? Yes – only because I expected it much sooner. Given his past responses to criticism, I assumed dissent would have been silenced long ago. Blocking an account does not project strength. It projects discomfort, fear and concern.

Let me be clear Roosevelt Skerrit: I am not going anywhere. The scrutiny will continue. The questions will continue. The pressure will continue, not out of malice, but out of responsibility. Leadership is not a throne. It is a duty. And duty demands accountability.

So Roosevelt Skerrit, buckle up, because the ride is gonna continue.
