The Path Forward: End The Burden Of School Book Costs On Struggling Families.

Dominicans, how much longer will we tolerate this outright disrespect? How much longer will we sit by while the very government entrusted to educate our children continues to fail us?

It is 2025, and parents across this island are still being forced to dig deep into their empty pockets to buy school books for their children. This is not just unfair, it is a national disgrace. Education is not a luxury. It is a basic right, and the responsibility to provide it falls squarely on the shoulders of the government, not the backs of struggling families who can barely afford food, let alone overpriced textbooks. Let us call it what it is, exploitation!

While families stretch every last dollar, the very same government that rakes in tens of millions from the passport industry, yes, the same Citizenship by Investment program making local millionaires overnight, has the nerve to force working and non-working Dominicans to pay for school books. They have found the money to hand out diplomatic passports like candy, but when it comes to educating our children, suddenly the treasury runs dry.

And where does all that money go? Into the pockets of a privileged few. Five government salaries for Roosevelt Skerrit and his wife, while teachers, the backbone of this nation’s future, are paid substandard wages. Schools limp along with inadequate budgets, dilapidated classrooms, and under-resourced staff, yet the First Family of Dominica cashes multiple paycheques every month. Does that sound like leadership to you?

The current administration has mastered the art of putting burdens on the citizens while padding their own pockets. And now, they want you to believe it’s “normal” for parents to foot the bill for schoolbooks, basic materials that should be guaranteed in a country that claims to care about education.

The NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP) says: ENOUGH.

We will end this madness. When elected, our government will:

  • Guarantee FREE schoolbooks for every child, from kindergarten to secondary school.
  • Stop balancing school budgets on the backs of parents and teachers.
  • Invest in real education, not photo ops and empty slogans.
  • Cut the political greed where the few collect multiple salaries while the many suffer.

Dominica deserves leadership that understands education is the foundation of opportunity, not a business transaction. The children of farmers, fishermen, shop workers, and civil servants deserve the same tools to succeed as the wealthy elite. This is not a handout; it is an investment in our future.

  • This is not impossible; it is common sense.
  • This is not charity, it is justice.

Dominicans, we are standing at a crossroads. The government can afford to educate our children properly. They choose not to. Under the NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP), that choice will be taken away from them. We will restore fairness, dignity, and real opportunity. No more excuses. No more burdens on struggling families. No more government greed. The time for change is now.

Join the NEW Dominica Reform Party (DRP). Let us take our country back, book by book, child by child, paycheck by paycheck.
