38. The Path Forward: Ending Snap Elections and Building Fairness in Our Democracy.

In Dominica, our democracy should be fair and open to everyone. Every citizen’s vote should count equally, and every political party should have a real chance to share their ideas and vision for our nation. For too long, the current system has allowed the government in power to call snap elections whenever it benefits them. This gives them an unfair advantage and makes it hard for other parties and voters to prepare. It also undermines trust in our democratic process.

The Dominica Reform Party (DRP) believes it is time to change this. We are committed to making our elections fair for everyone. That is why we propose a fixed election date of January 27 every four years. With this change, no government can manipulate the timing of an election to its own advantage.

To make elections even more fair, we also propose that the official campaign period start six months before the election. This gives every party enough time to share their ideas and policies with the people of Dominica. It ensures that voters can make informed choices and that all parties have a fair opportunity to be heard.

Some may see this as a big change to how things are done, but we see it as a way to show trust in the people of Dominica and in our government. We are confident in our ideas, our leadership, and our commitment to the citizens. We do not need to manipulate the system or use political timing to win. Our focus is on real policies, solutions, and the long-term well-being of our nation.

By ending snap elections and creating a fixed date, we are protecting the integrity of our democracy. We are sending a clear message: government should serve the people, not political convenience. Voters deserve stability, predictability, and a genuine chance to choose their leaders based on merit, vision, and commitment—not who can take advantage of the rules.

This is the kind of democracy the DRP believes in—one that is fair, transparent, and built on trust. A fixed election date of January 27, combined with a six-month campaign period, is a step toward that vision. It is our promise to the people of Dominica: that we will compete for your confidence honestly, openly, and with integrity.
